The Blacksmith’s Journal travels up to Postville Blacksmith shop, just north of Monroe in south central Wisconsin. Bob Bergman and his crew will begin forging the full-size version of the sundial maquette shown in issue 204. The shop is equipped to easily handle a job this size.

Shop tooling is necessary when large numbers of one part are required. Don Asbee shows how he worked out tooling for a batch of quatrefoils and balusters. The quatrefoil tooling includes a hinged fuller placed over a swage block for making C-scrolls, a welding clamp, and a collar jig.
