Issue 199 begins with a how-to guide to making a leaf and a ‘what-to’ guide for when you have run out of ideas of what to do with that last leaf you made. Your leaf will be different from mine, and mine are all different from each other. What results is a unique piece of ironwork each time you step up to the anvil and make a leaf freehand.

To make this sliding bolt, a special tool will be needed to forge the offset keeper straps that hold the bolt down. There are many ways to forge an offset, and in the last issue of the Blacksmith’s Journal, another method was demonstrated.
