The third installment of the ABANA 2000 gate project (see issue #95 & 97
for the first installments) explores details of the gate design. Featured
are FAAC 400 swing gate operators that are hidden below the driveway surface,
and combination latch and drop bar mechanism. The next installment will
feature the first steps in building a scale model. |
| Sharing the gate feature in issue #99 is step by step illustrations of
John Murray's method of making a cross peen hand hammer with his Nazel
2B. |

 |
Following the hammer making feature are drawings of John's power hammer
swage tools. He uses a Clifton Ralph style saddle to hold the spring swage,
freeing his hands to better control the movement of the stock in the die. |
| The November issue of ToolCrib highlights Shade Tree Ironworks where
owner John Murray not only pounds iron with his beautifully restored air
hammers, but builds and restores vintage pre-WWII airplanes. It's an interesting
look at his anomalous combination of interests. |
