This andiron features a 1” square bar log rest. Using wrought iron or a low carbon steel—like 1018 instead of A36—will make the bar less subject to deterioration. The three sizes of material needed for this project are ½”x 1” flat, ¼”x 1” flat and 1” square.

This finial takes elements out of the andiron finial (above), adds to them, then bundles them with a new element. Nine total 3/8” bars are bundled and forge welded together, then welded to a 1” square bar to finish.
